Negative space is one of the most misunderstood things in art. Through 5+ hours of video lessons, I aim to give you a framework for wherever you are in your art journey. Divided into 6 modules and 50+ lessons of hands-on exercises, we go through tools, techniques, and three separate approaches to art to gain mastery of the brush and understanding of how to use negative space.

Who is @denungeherrholm?
Hi there, I’m Kim Diaz Holm, also called Den Unge Herr Holm. That means “The Young Mister Holm”, and it was the online name I chose for myself when I was still young!
I’m an artist and storyteller from Bergen, Norway, and I tell stories about myth, horror, folklore, politics, and mental health, and release my art for free use.
As an artist I’ve done everything from being a jack-of-all-trades illustrator drawing local kindergarten mascots and birthday caricatures, to drawing hundreds of live concerts and working with extreme metal bands and releases, to selling my own dark art to customers on every continent and to having thousands of people wear my art as boots, T-shirts, and tattoos.
Ever since I started working professionally back in 2004, I’ve also held courses for special needs children and fellow professional artists and anyone else. This course will be the natural evolution of all that learning. I still live in my hometown of Bergen, Norway, with my wife and 2 kids. Like so many artists, I’m still living month to month after 22 years as a professional, trying to retain that balance of working on personal art and projects and doing exciting collaborations with others.

Through exercises you will get a mastery of all aspects of inking, from line weight to advanced splatter techniques, and be able to have art flow directly from your brush.
3Â ways of making art
You will learn how to construct your drawing from fundamental building blocks, to draw your impressions directly from the world, and how to react to what happens on the page and express your inner world.
Understanding Negative Space
Teaching you to look at not only what you are drawing, but what you are not drawing, and use the negative space as a measuring tool, and a path to control the viewer's eyes and experience.
The course has 6 modules and 5+ hours of learning and practice. It also includes my own ink studies and different exercises you will practice with. You can pause and replay the videos as much as you want. It's best to take the course in order if you’re just getting started with your art journey.

02. CONSTRUCTING ART
Get familiar with using the brush by practicing the art fundamentals, from building perspective to dynamic anatomy.
03. INKING WITH A BRUSH
Learn the different brush lines and how to use them, and experiment with all sorts of advanced ink techniques.
04. IMPRESSIONISTIC INK
Here we draw directly from the world, focusing on the impression it makes on us and translating it into marks that feel real on the page.
05. expressionistic ink
Learn to react to what happens on the paper, and how it makes you feel. Improvise patterns and stories and find secret expressions in the negative space.
06. MASTERING NEGATIVE SPACE
In the final module we put it all together, and get back to negative space through analyzing both our lessons so far and real world examples.
